Blog about Twitter

A Twitter discussion is different from a Blackboard Discussion and an in-class discussion. A tweet is limited to a certain number of characters, while a blackboard discussion and in-class discussion can be as long as the writer/speaker wants to. All of these discussions involve a different setting. Twitter is a social networking site. Blackboard is used mainly for online class discussions. An in-class discussion is a live discussion that takes place in a classroom. All these discussions are similar because they all allow some form of follow up. People on twitter are able to retweet posts and reply to it. This can lead to a chain of replies. People can comment and reply to blackboard discussions as well. As for an in-class discussion, people can jump into a discussion to refute a point or add onto it. Twitter discussions can be easier to have since other users might not know who you are. Twitter users are behind a computer or mobile device tweeting away. This serves as a mask to cover their identity (if the user does not use their real name) when they start or continue a discussion. They may feel more freedom with their words. A blackboard discussion is between students someone may be familiar with. They may feel like censoring their replies and comments. An in-class discussion between students may be hard for some since it can go in either a good or bad way.

  1. Hey Jesse,
I believe that Twitter can be very scary due to the mask that "covers their identity." Although there is freedom with their words, this freedom can be dangerous because I would like to know who is expressing their opinions and how valid their credentials are. Twitter for the purpose of class discussion is okay but once Twitter is used for political and social discussion the person needs to be made known. Today's society, in my opinion, is very gullible.
